Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, in a meeting of the Commission for Emergencies, ordered immediately working out a plan of action specifying the responsibilities of the institutions and central and local authorities if the situation becomes worse following the unfavorable weather conditions, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Government, the emergency services are ready to get to all the settlements of the country if the weather worsens. There were prepared 127 tents equipped with generators and heating devices that will be provided to persons affected by the cold weather. 

The State Hydrometeorology Service announced that the temperatures the next few days will drop to minus 17°C in northern Moldova. Rain and sleet will fall in the southern districts.

Officials of the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure said the national roads are passable, but the vehicles move with difficulty. A number of 213 snowplows and other types of machines and 66,000 tonnes of antiskid material were prepared in case the situation gets worse.

At midday, 135 settlements in Moldova were fully or partially disconnected from the power supply. The districts of Causeni, Anenii Noi, Criuleni and Cimislia are the worst hit. Specialized teams work to restore the supply of electricity there.
