Premier seeks help from Constitutional Court

Liberal-Democrat Prime Minister Vlad Filat asked the Constitutional Court to rule on the constitutionality of the Government assuming responsibility before Parliament for adopting an organic law with amendments to the state budget law, the social insurance budget law and the law on social allowances provided during the cold period of the year, Info-Prim Neo reports. The leader of the PLDM made the announcement during the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV, responding to the accusations made by the Liberal Acting President Mihai Ghimpu. Vlad Filat said that under the Parliament's regulations, the Government is entitled to assume responsibility for adopting a bill. This bill takes effect in 72 hours if at least one fourth of MPs do not table a censorship motion. Filat also said the leaders of the governing alliance should not forget that their main opponent is the Communists Party, which already showed how it can govern. Earlier, the deputy chairman of the Liberal Party Anatol Salaru warned the alliance's leaders of the danger that the Communists might return to power. In such a case, the meetings of the ruling alliance will be held abroad, where all those who now govern will seek refuge, Salaru said. Yesterday, Acting President Mihai Ghimpu said in a press briefing that the Prime Minister violated the Constitution when the Government assumed responsibility for amending the state budget law for 2010.
