Prime Minister Dorin Recean demanded that Liviu Oboroc should resign from the post of director of the Single Emergency Phone Service 112 in connection with the death of two persons who got stuck in snow piles with their car in Căușeni district, IPN reports.
“First of all, I want to offer my condolences to the family of the two persons who died as a result of the November 26 whiteouts. Today the state should make sure that the citizens can be saved even when the persons neglect their own safety,” Dorin Recean stated at the beginning of the November 29 meeting of the Cabinet.
According to him, until the Prosecutor’s Office clarifies things, the director of the Emergency Service should vacate the post. “As I ascertained, the 112 Service only passes on information instead of dealing with a case from the start till the end, of making sure that the problem is solved,” stated Premier Recean.
On January 1, 2024, the 112 Service will be transferred from the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitization under the management of the Ministry of the Interior. In this connection, Dorin Recean requested the involved ministries to review all the emergency response protocols during 30 days.
The rescue teams got to the car that got stuck in a snowdrift the next day, when the two persons from inside the vehicle were already dead. The man and relatives of the couple called the 112 Service for multiple times and sought help, but the rescuers reached the two only after a passerby informed about the death of the two. The police opened an inquiry, while the Prosecutor’s Office started a criminal case to determine how the institutions interacted. For its part, the Ministry of the Interior ordered an internal inquiry at the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations.
