Prime Minister Pavel Filip on February 13 will make an official visit to Ukraine to meet with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Hroisman and discuss a number of issues, including the ecosystem of the Nistru River, IPN reports.
Pavel Filip announced that Ukraine’s intention to install several water turbines on the Nistru is the key problem that will be discussed during the visit. “It is not only about the hydropower plant in Novodnestrovsk. They intend to put up hydroelectric turbines upstream on the Nistru and this surely directly affects the Republic of Moldova,” stated the Premier. According to him, the fact that owing to the hydroelectric plants, the whole ecosystem of the river is affected is one of the biggest problems.
Pavel Filip said he will ask for the European Commission’s assistance in carrying out a thorough analysis in this regard.
The Premier noted that among other issues that will be discussed are the common approach to the Transnistrian conflict settlement and the barriers to the Moldovan-Ukrainian trade.
