Premier dissatisfied with charges levied when paying for public utilities
Prime Minister Vlad Filat expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that Moldova's Post Office and Banca de Economii levy a charge of 0.50 lei and, respectively, 1 leu for every paid bill, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Premier instructed the Minister of Finance Vaceslav Negruta and Minister of Information Technology Alexandru Oleinic to examine the conditions and necessity of levying these charges.
“The Government's anteroom is besieged with phone calls from pensioners who are sent by Banca de Economii and Moldova's Post Office directly to me,” Vlad Filat said.
“Please tell the administrators who benefited from or instructed that the charge be levied to pay back all the money taken from pensioners from their own pockets.”
On September 1, 2009, Moldova's Post Office introduced a tax of 0.50 lei for every bill for public utilities paid. Until then, the service was free of charge. Banca de Economii charges 1 leu for this service.
