Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici requested strictly supervising Ilan Shor, who was placed under house arrest and is investigated as a suspect in the case of Banca de Economii, so as to prevent him from leaving the country. The request was addressed to the representatives of the Ministry of the Interior in the May 11 field meeting of the Cabinet, which was held at the Ministry of Justice, IPN has learned from the Government’s press service.
“Mister Balan, the press reported that Ilan Shor may leave the country. Given that the businessman is investigated within the criminal case over appropriation of money from Banca de Economii, Banca Sociala and Unibank, I ask you to strictly supervise him at his place so that he does not flee the country,” asked the Premier, addressing the minister of the interior.
Last week, after the head of the National Anticorruption Center said in Parliament that a part of the stolen money could be in the country, in the form of investments made at the Chisinau International Airport, the Prime Minister requested setting up an interdepartmental working group that will produce a report on the possible violations at the airport. The interdepartmental group, coordinated by the National Anticorruption Center, in concert with the Civil Aviation Authority, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Finance, is to present the results of a thorough analysis of the situation, aimed at identifying possible violations at the airport, to the Government by the end of this week.
In the field meeting, the ministers presented comprehensive reports on the utilization of the funds provided to Moldova by the foreign partners. There were discussed the steps that must be taken by each institution to efficiently use this money.
Ilan Shor was placed under house arrest for a period of 30 days on May 6. On May 11, the Chisinau Appeals Court was to pronounce on the prosecutors’ request to remand him in custody for 30 days. But the hearing was postponed until next week.
