Prime Minister Pavel Filip convened a meeting of the commission for emergencies in connection with the low temperatures and heavy snowfalls. In the meeting, head of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service Mihai Harabagiu said vehicles travel in winter conditions and there were reported no interruptions in the power supply, IPN reports.
First vice director of the State Hydrometeorological Service Violeta Balan said snow and sleet were forecast for January 14-18. The southeastern wind will blow at a speed of 3-8 meters per second.
The Premier underlined the necessity of further maximum mobilization so as to intervene on time and provide the required aid to the people, clear snow from roads and unblock access to facilities of social importance.
“Saint Basil and New Year’s Eve according to the old style will be soon celebrated. The people will travel more during these days. I thus request the authorities to take all the measures needed to ensure security and safety on roads,” stated Pavel Filip.
He also asked to ensure the permanent informing of the people about the work of the state border crossing points, where the heavy snowfall caused impediments, including owing to the impassable roads in the neighboring states Romania and Ukraine.
