Premier at CIS summit: Moldova will actively take part in modernization of national economies

The Republic of Moldova will continue to take an active part in the implementation of the measures to modernize the national economies, to efficiently use transport infrastructure and power networks, to realize the economic potential and ensure food security in the CIS, Prime Minister Pavel Filip stated in the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, IPN reports.

According to the Government’s press service, in a speech given in the narrow format meeting, Pavel Filip reiterated Moldova’s interest in intensifying and diversifying economic-commercial cooperation, at bilateral and multilateral levels, within the Commonwealth of Independent States, including by fully implementing the CIS Free Trade Agreement that was signed in St. Petersburg on October 18, 2011. He noted it is important for the member states to eliminate the artificially created barriers that hamper commercial exchanges.

“Within the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Republic of Moldova set among its priorities the ensuring of free movement of people and development of commercial-economic, social, cultural and humanitarian cooperation,” stated the Premier.

Pavel Filip said that in the context of the changes that take place at world level and the new regional challenges, the partner states must devote increased attention to the modernization and optimization of the organization and to the cooperation in the common fight against cybercrime, terrorism and other forms of aggression and extremism. “Evidently, if we solve the problems related to the new types of threats, consolidation of cultural and humanitarian cooperation, development of diplomatic relations and intensification of bilateral exchanges in the scientific-technological and information areas remain in the center of attention,” he stated.

In the meeting, the Republic of Moldova signed a series of multilateral agreements concerning cooperation in culture, ensuring of cyber-security and declaration of 2017 as the year of family and 2018 as the year of culture in the CIS. There was also adopted the Common Statement of the CIS States regarding the 70th anniversary of the Nuremberg Trials.
