Preliminary causes of large fires that occurred in Chisinau last week

The April 20 fire at the Zoology Institute of the Academy of Sciences was most probably caused by a short circuit or by an open fire that was used imprudently. A short circuit and the violation of the fire safety rules are also the preliminary causes of the second fire that occurred at a shopping center on Ismail St the same day. The versions were formulated by the General Inspectorate for Emergencies, IPN reports.

According to the Inspectorate, a short circuit in the power network of the mobile phone carrier or impudent use of open fire are examined as the possible causes of the fire at the Zoology Institute. In the case of the second fire, the short circuit presumably appeared in the network that supplied power to the extractor hood or because the fire safety rules when using the hot gases elimination system were violated.

The final causes of the two fires will be presented by the General Inspectorate for Emergencies in a report after all the circumstances of the fires are determined.

No one was hurt in the two fires that occurred on April 20. The damage caused to the Zoology Institute was estimated at several million lei. The fire destroyed over 1,000 square meters of the roof that cannot be restored and damaged equipment situated on the upper floor. In the case of the fire that happened on Ismail St, the flames affected over 500 square meters of the roof and lateral wall facing.
