Alexandru Paraschiv is the only Moldovan boxer who was to continue the competition at the Pre-Olympic Tournament of London, IPN reports.
On March 17, Paraschiv was to meet France’s Sofiane Oumiha, Olympic vice champion in 2016, world champion in 2017 and double European vice champion, but the London tournament was postponed owing to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
If Alexandru had scored a victory in the 63 kg weight class, he would have qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games set for July 24 – August 9, 2020.
The following pugilists were eliminated earlier from the competition: Dorin Bucșa (57 kg), Dumitru Galagoț (69 kg), Andrei Vreme (75 kg), Andrei Kiriakov (81 kg) and Iulia Coroli (51 kg).
