Representatives of the Political Party “Our Party” (PPPN) said they are against the contract signed by the Government of Moldova and Frontera Resources by which the American company is allowed to explore for hydrocarbons on one third of the country’s territory.
PPPN member Ilian Casu, councilor on the Chisinau Municipal Council, in a news conference condemned the nontransparent way in which the given contract was signed. According to him, the leader of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc does not have the right to decide in the name of hundreds of thousands of Moldovans.
Ilian Casu expressed his concern about the fact that the environment protection norms are not respected. “Minister Valeriu Munteanu is not credible when he assures that the environmental regulations will be respected. Munteanu assured that the forests in Moldova are not felled, but they actually cut down trees in a large number,” he stated.
According to the councilor, other governments invest a lot of money in ecological energies, while Plahotniuc’s regime starts to dig Moldova’s territory. Frontera Resources is involved in mega scandals in Georgia, while the company’s losses in 2016 exceeded US$10 million.
PPPN deputy chairman Nicolai Tsipovich said the President of Moldova Igor Dodon was transmitted a bill that bans the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons by hydraulic fracturing and was asked to include it in legislative procedure. The informative note to the bill says a law in France bans such explorations.
