PPPN invites people to protest against electoral system change

The Political Party “Our Party” (PPPN) calls on the people to come before the Parliament Building on July 20, starting at 9am, to protest against the change in the electoral system, IPN reports.

According to the deputy head of the party Ilian Casu, an element that causes concerns is the inexistence of the runoff vote for candidates from single-mandate constituencies in the bill to change the electoral system. “According to the bill of Plahotniuc-Dodon, those who will poll a maximum of 8% of the vote can become MPs,” stated Ilian Casu.

He also said that one of the provisions of Vlad Plahotniuc’s bill does not enable the leader of the PPPN Renato Usatyi to run in elections. ”It is about the clause that envisions the personal presence of the candidate in the uninominal constituency for being able to run. How many times can the Plahotniuc regime exclude Renato Usatyi (who is now in Moscow, e.n.) from the electoral race by such stratagems?” asked the deputy head of the PPPN.

PPPN deputy head Dumitru Chubashenko said the current electoral system should be kept. “By the initiative to change the electoral system, Igor Dodon helps Plahotniuc to keep the regime for many years ahead. We want to take to the streets. There is no consensus, but only an agreement between Plahotniuc and Dodon” he stated.

The last debates on the proposal to change the electoral system were held by the Parliament’s legal commission for appointments and immunities on July 19. The bill is among the draft laws that Parliament is to adopt by the end of the current session, which closes on July 31, 2017.
