PPPDA seeks questioning of minister of agriculture in Parliament

The vice president of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” (PPPDA) Alexandr Slusari filed an application by which he asks to immediately call a Parliament sitting where to question Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ion Perju. According to the MP, the minister should present an anti-crisis plan for overcoming the situation generated by the natural disasters, IPN reports.

“In most of the districts, the situation of farmers is critical. Regrettably, the abundant and non-uniform precipitation of the last few days significantly influenced the state of autumn crops. In such conditions, tens of thousands of farmers risk going bankrupt and the food security is in serious danger, while the country will be further dependent on the import of agrifood products. Evidently, this will generate a sufficient rise in the negative balance of payments,” says the application.

In Parliament, the minister should present information on the state of fields and multiannual plantations and the MPs should consider the necessity of suspending the export of wheat.

PPPDA leader Andrei Năstase on May 3 had a videoconference centering on the natural calamities with over 50 farmers. The politician said the farmers from Bălți up to southern Moldova re-sow the fields with wheat or, in the best case, expect a harvest that will yield only revenues for rental. The farmers noted they are close to an economic catastrophe and insist on declaring a state of emergency in agriculture as this can create objective preconditions for rescheduling the debts.
