The Political Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPPDA) called on President Igor Dodon to sign a decree on the initiation of a national referendum on the annulment of the law that envisions the repayment by the country’s people of the stolen US$ 1 billion, IPN reports.
“Even if President Igor Dodon submitted a legislative initiative to this effect, he was more preoccupied with geopolitical rhetoric. At the same time, the legislative initiative to annul the stolen US$1 billion law that was submitted to the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova was abandoned by President Dodon, being left to the discretion of an adviser with doubtful performance,” PPPDA leader Andrei Nastase told a news conference.
The President’s spokesman Ion Ceban commented on the PPPDA’s initiative on a social networking site. According to him, the draft decree proposed by this party lacks any legal basis. “I will refer only to the proposed referendum date – May 28. It is not possible to hold a credendum on this day at least technically as one month is needed for producing electoral lists, about one month for amending the budget and allocating the necessary resources, time for the “electoral” campaign prior to the referendum and other details. So, this can be held not earlier than five months from now,” wrote Ion Ceban.
He noted that the President prepared all the necessary materials on the issue and will give details about the subsequent steps on March 28 at the latest.
