The Political Council of the Political Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” confirmed the PPPDA leader Andrei Nastase’s decision to withdraw from the race for the presidency in favor of the head of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu. The decision was made public in a news conference given in Mandresti village of Telenesti district on October 15. Andrei Nastase explained that the nomination of a common candidate will prevent the spreading of voters and increases the chances of reaching the second round of voting and of winning the elections, IPN reports.
According to Andrei Nastase, the decision reached by the PPPDA’s Political Council is a conscious one and was taken in the interests of the country and all the people. The party will support the common candidate because only this way can they beat the Democratic Party’s candidate Marian Lupu.
“It is sometimes important to concede so that the family, the country and the future of this country gain. The Platform “Dignity and Truth” was perceived so too. I want to give a signal to the whole country and show that we are able to overcome personal ambitions and vainglory. The Platform’s gesture shows this and we think that by unity we will remove the criminal regime that humiliates the whole country,” stated the leader of the PPPDA.
The party requested Maia Sandu to assume the main points from the electoral program of Andrei Nastase. Among these are decentralization, modernization of towns, development of agriculture, education and medicine, submission of legislative initiatives on the reformation of justice and combating of corruption, appointment of an independent person as prosecutor general, confiscation of the property of state officials, prosecutors and judges who cannot prove the source of income for purchasing these, causing of early parliamentary elections, and initiation of a referendum on the recovery of the stolen billions of lei.
Candidate Maia Sandu told the same news conference that by the decision to nominate her for the presidency, the PAS and PPPDA aim to oust the corrupt government and to start to build a country with institutions that work in the people’s interests. “We have the same objective and it is important to unite around it. It is important for the two parties to combine forces because the parliamentary elections are coming. It is important to warn the current government that things will not go on like this. We need young people with jobs at home and thus should transmit a positive signal now,” she stated.
The leader of the PAS announced that the Political Council of the Liberal Democratic Party on October 15 also decided to support her as the common candidate of the anti-oligarchic parties in the presidential elections.
