PPPDA: PDM is trying to manipulate representatives of European institutions

The leadership f the Political Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPPDA) said the Democratic Party is trying to manipulate and to mislead representatives of European institutions. According to PPPDA, to justify the abusive replacement of the electoral system before the European partners, the PDM invokes the results of polls that lack credibility and uses as arguments the so-called support of the population for the electoral reform, IPN reports.

“Several days ago, representatives of the “Platform Dignity and Truth” came into possession of documents sent by the Democratic Party of Moldova to European institutions. Through the agency of lobbying firms financed with the billions of lei stolen from people, the representatives of the oligarchic regime are trying to present the situation in the Republic of Moldova in a distorted way, saying they included the recommendations of the Venice Commission in the amendments to the Election Code,” PPPDA leader Andrei Nastase told a news conference.

According to him, the authorities invoke measures aimed at improving the electoral legislation, but these do not change the illegal, antidemocratic and illegitimate character of the electoral system change. Even if the Venice Commission said trenchantly that the replacement of the current electoral system with the mixed system proposed by Dodon and promoted by Plahotniuc endangers democracy in Moldova and such changes are not recommended, Plahotniuc hypocritically informs the European institutions about the fulfillment of recommendations of the Commission at a time when the main recommendation of this prestigious institution in the field of electoral democracy was to give up changing the existing electoral system.

Andrei Nastase considers the real goal of these desperate moves is to avoid a halt in the financing provided by the EU and the renegotiation of the Moldova-EU Association Agreement.

The party calls on the European institutions to apply all the individual punishment mechanisms in relation to the Democratic leader Vlad Plahotniuc and the representatives of the Moldovan government, without affecting the interests of the people. The PPPDA also calls upon all the citizens of Moldova, including the diaspora, to actively take part in the September 17 protest where democracy, the European course and the future of the children and grandchildren in a free and prosperous country are to be defended.
