The Political Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPPDA) is decided to promote its candidate in the local early mayoral elections in the municipality of Chisinau till the end, the party’s leader Andrei Nastase said in the program “Politics” on TV8 channel, IPN reports.
“We are decided to go till the end with our candidate. Now everyone has the freedom to decide their priorities – the party interests, the personal interests or the public interests,” stated Andrei Nastase. He also spoke about the situation when Maia Sandu’s party proposes another common candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau. “Political logic dictates that a common candidate of all the forces should be now supported by the two parties as they will have bigger chances this way. Currently, the PPPDA considers that the candidate should be fielded by the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”,” added the politician.
According to him, a candidate of the PPPDA has bigger chances in the municipality of Chisinau and even greater chances if this is supported by other political and civil forces. “We missed the chance in 2016 and do not have the right to miss it again in 2018. In the current conditions, if I do not manage to win the mayoralty, I don’t know if there is someone else who could do it. In the current situation, with a Municipal Council that won’t be necessarily very good, but with which I would try to cooperate from institutional viewpoint, we should find solutions for the inhabitants of Chisinau and should leaving aside the political or other kinds of disagreements,” noted Andrei Nastase.
He also said that when Dorin Chirtoaca tendered his resignation from mayoralty, the Party “Action and Solidarity” and the PPDA should have already had a common candidate. “We should also have a candidate for the next presidential elections now already, if we consider ourselves serious, mature political parties. We should also have views for the future, not only for the moment,” said the leader of the PPPDA.
According to him, it is a real chance for the anti-oligarchic democratic forces that want to change things to lay the foundations of a fundamental change in the country by the victory in the early mayoral elections.
On March 4, the National Political Council of the Political Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” designated Andrei Nastase as the party’s candidate for the local mayoral elections in Chisinau municipality. The Central Election Commission hasn’t yet decided if the elections will be held on May 20, 2017, which is the last day when early local elections can be held before the ordinary elections of 2019.
