The parliamentary group of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” (PPPDA) intends to launch the procedure for urgently calling an extraordinary sitting of Parliament. Thirty-four signatures of MPs need to be collected for the purpose, said Deputy Speaker Alexandru Slusari, PPPDA vice president, who noted that the sitting will be convened to discuss the disastrous situation in agriculture and to consider solutions, IPN reports.
Alexandr Slusari told a news conference that the PPPDA proposes including the questioning of the Prime Minister and minister of agriculture in the agenda of the Parliament’s extraordinary sitting so as to consider the necessity of declaring a state of agricultural emergency in a number of districts of Moldova in connection with the natural disasters and to ask for assistance from the foreign partners.
The PPPDA MPs also suggest examining amendments to the Law on the Chamber of Trade and Industry so as to unlock the issuing of force majeure certificates, and considering the possibility of introducing a tax holiday for some categories of enterprises, including for all the farmers affected by the disasters.
“We consider there is now an objective possibility of identifying, even in August, 500 million lei for compensating the farmers for the losses sustained because the first group grain crops and multiannual plantations were destroyed by hail. In September, we will also find resources for compensating them for the damage caused to spring crops,” stated Alexandru Slusari.
Under the Parliament’s Regulations, if the legislative body is not in an ordinary session, it can come together for an extraordinary or special sitting at the request of the President, Parliament Speaker or 1/3 of the MPs.
