The Political Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPPDA) called upon the anti-oligarchic political forces and independent civil society to unite for initiating a legislative referendum on the annulment of the amendments to the Election Code by which the mixed-member electoral system was introduced, IPN reports.
In a news conference, PPPDA deputy chairman Alexandru Slusari said that almost all the districts of the country were retailored as a result of the process of delimiting the boundaries of electoral constituencies. Consequently, uncertainty appeared as to the method of establishing the councils of electoral constituencies and of solving local electoral disputes. “The PPPDA continues to demand to annul the mixed-member electoral system that was promoted and adopted by the Plahotniuc – Dodon duo by ignoring the opinions of the most important European institutions,” stated Alexandru Slusari.
Aliona Doros, head of the PPPDA Women’s Organization, said that within the mixed-member electoral system the rights of women are violated as their chances of taking part in elections as independent candidates in constituencies are equal to zero.
The PPPDA also said that the voters from the diaspora are discriminated. “Under the recently amended Election Code, at least 13 constituencies should be established for these persons. But the Electoral Commission decided to set up only three constituencies for our diaspora. The promise to establish 25 constituencies abroad made by President Dodon turned out to be an ordinary lie!”, stated Alexandru Slusari.
The PPPDA calls on the diaspora to mount protests against the mixed electoral system that is discriminatory in the large European capitals, in the U.S. and Russia as well as in Chisinau.
