Representatives of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” (PPPDA) said the current situation on the oil products market is unacceptable and they are concerned about the lack of reaction on the part of the government. They demand that professionals should be named as managers at the Competition Council and at the National Agency for Energy Regulation, IPN reports.
Ex-MP Alexandru Slusari told a news conference that the prices of gasoline and diesel fuel during a month rose by over 2 lei a litter. This surge has had a serious impact on citizens’ revenues and on the economy in general, striking, in particular, the farmers and carriers. After the last amendments made to the law on the oil products market, oil sellers raise the fuel prices daily in an orchestrated way, no matter when the fuels are imported. Cartel agreements are this way employed daily.
“It is worrisome when the demonstrative abuses on the oil products market are committed under a Competition Council that remained without an administration on August 11 and under a NAER that works based on an obscure agreement of Plahotniuc, Ghimpu and Leancă, who dictate the prices to the main oil sellers under the reached agreements. The government practically does not react to the created situation, while the merger of these institutions (PAS initiative, e.n.) will paralyze the activity of both of the entities for a long period of time and will enable the large companies to abuse further without being penalized,” stated Alexandru Slusari.
PPPDA calls on the Government and Parliament to urgently ensure the functionality of the Competition Council by assigning professionals to manage this and to take swift action to combat the cartel agreements and harshly penalize those involved. It also asks to dismiss NAER’s administration and to appoint new managers according to merits and integrity and without political affiliation. The party demands to compensate the small and medium-scale famers and carriers transporting passengers on regular routes by refunding the excise duties to them.
