MPs Iurie Leanca and Eugen Carpov, of the European People’s Party of Moldova (PPEM), are ready to cooperate with the parliamentary majority with a view to bringing the country closer to the European Union. The decision was taken in the June 24 meeting of the party’s National Political Council, IPN reports.
After the Council’s meeting, the party’s chairman Iurie Leanca said that they discussed the invitation that was issued by the ruling alliance a week ago, by which all the pro-European parliamentary forces were invited to a dialogue. “As a result of the debate, by a majority of votes, we decided to give the necessary mandate to the party’s Political Bureau so as to initiate discussions with the alliance with the aim of establishing a partnership on the European integration,” he stated.
Iurie Leanca considers that this will offer the party the chance of influencing things with the aim of implementing the Association Agreement with the EU and doing reforms. “We will sign an agreement concerning the implementation of reforms in justice, how to recover the money stolen from the banking sector, how to punish those to blame and to ensure that such things never repeat again. The establishment of this partnership depends on this accord,” said the leader of the PPEM.
The Council of the ruling alliance last week invited the pro-European parliamentary forces to a dialogue. Earlier, the Liberal Democratic Party announced that it will not accept the invitation.
