PPEM MPs explain why they didn’t vote for neutrality statement

The MPs of the European People’s Party of Moldova (PPEM) Iurie Leanca and Eugen Carpov said they didn’t support the statement on the permanent neutrality of the Republic of Moldova, which was adopted by Parliament on March 31, because this does not mention the real threats faced by the country, IPN reports.

“This is a statement without content, a sterile statement. Instead of helping us to overcome the polarization of society, it divides us further. The fact that it shapes a new alliance of the left is the only value of this statement,” stated Iurie Leanca.

He added that the document does not stipulate the real threats to which Moldova is exposed. “It says nothing about separatism or about those who violate the neutrality status by the Russian military presence in Transnistria,” said the leader of the PPEM.

The draft statement proposed by the Communists was carried by the votes of 62 Communist, Socialist and Democratic MPs and former Communists. The Liberals and Lib-Dems voted against.
