The councilors of the Electoral Bloc “European People’s Platform – Iurie Leanca” (PPEM) ask that a special meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) should be convened for September 15, IPN reports.
In the Council’s meeting of September 2, PPEM councilor Ruslan Codreanu said the special meeting should center on the dismissal of the Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca. He urged his colleagues to come to the meeting, saying those who will not come will show cowardice.
The leader of the group of the Party of Socialists Ion Ceban criticized the mayor of Chisinau, saying this hasn’t been at work for half a year. He expressed his indignation at the fact that the Council’s secretary has been on leave for two months and Socialist councilors’ requests to hold meetings in August remained unanswered. He considers the local executive is not interested in solving the problems faced in the city.
For his part, the head of the Liberal group Ion Cebanu said some of the councilors consider the position on the CMC allows them to play image and party games. “I have a public question to the representative of the PPEM because, at the central level, they said that they support the country’s European course and continue to support the alliance. Here, they have another attitude and play a dual game. That’s why I think the PPEM should clearly decide where they go and with whom,” he stated.
Earlier, a number of civic activists dissatisfied with the work of Dorin Chirtoaca initiated a referendum on the mayor’s dismissal. The court ordered registering the initiative group, but the decision was challenged. The case is to be examined by the Balti Appeals Court.
