PPDA sues Central Election Commission

The leader of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPDA) Andrei Nastase and the head of the initiative group for collecting signatures in favor of this Alexandru Slusari on September 13 filed a lawsuit against the Central Election Commission and the Democratic leader Marian Lupu to the Chisinau Appeals Court, IPN reports.

The PPDA makes reference to the CEC decision concerning the registration of Marian Lupu as a candidate for the presidency. In a press release, the PPDA says the regulations approved by the CEC provide that the applicants are registered from Monday through Friday. “Violating its own decision and the law, the CEC accepted the documents submitted by Marian Lupu outside the legal time – on Saturday, September 3,” said the party.

According to the PPDA, the working group of the CEC decided to halt the process of verifying the subscription lists presented by the Democratic Party when slightly over 15,000 valid signatures, which is the required minimum, were confirmed. There is no guarantee that the remaining signatures weren’t illegally used in favor of other contenders that are ‘affiliated to the current oligarchic power’.

The PPDA says it was the duty of the CEC to check all the signatures up to the required limit, to compare them with the signatures of other applicants and to exclude those that repeat. Also, Andrei Nastase and Alexandru Slusari seeks transparency in the process of verifying the signatures of all the potential candidates, including those that were collected in favor of the PPDA’s candidate, with the participation of all the aspirants for the office of President and representatives of the OSCE.
