PPCD suggests amending Election Code

“The PPCD recommends observing and simultaneously amending the Election Code,” the party’s president Iurie Rosca said at a news conference on Thursday, Info-Prim Neo reports. In order to avoid additional expenses, the Christian-Democratic leader proposes amending the Election Code according to the model of most of the European countries that do not impose restrictions as regards the minimum voter turnout. “But this amendment must be introduced with the consent of the Opposition. Otherwise, there will be dissatisfaction and contestations,” Iurie Rosca said. The PPCD leader spoke about the electoral rolls whose correctness was challenged by the Opposition. He considers that the local public authorities are to blame as there are many new employees that did not fulfill their major duties. “We call on the local public authorities responsible for this procedure to exemplarily contribute to the drawing up of the lists and make them public 20 days before the parliamentary elections, as the Election Code provides,” Iurie Rosca said. During the news conference, Iurie Rosca proposed that the public debates on radio and TV should start when any of the election contenders is registered, not after all the contenders are registered. He also said that the separate debates between independent runners and the political parties would be more effective. The president of the PPCD pleaded for a fair election campaign, without insults, and for solving all the electoral problems through contestations at the Central Election Commission. In the April 5 legislative elections, the PPCD won 3.06% of the vote and did not enter the Parliament.
