Powers of commission on child protection extended

The commission on the protection of children in difficulty will enjoy extended powers when examining cases of deinstitutionalization of children from residential services. The modification is stipulated in the framework regulations on the organization and functioning of this commission approved by the interim Cabinet, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family, the new regulations also envision the planned placement of these children under guardianship or in family type services when the reintegration of the child into the biological family is not possible. The commission will be empowered to issue certificates about the provision and size of financial assistance offered within the social service for supporting families with children.

Statistics for 2014 show the commissions on the protection of children in difficulty examined the cases of about 2,000 families with over 3,000 children. In the case of 200 families, the children were reintegrated into the family, almost 60 children were placed in family type homes, while over 200 children benefitted from professional parent assistance.
