Historian and publicist Gheorghe Cojocaru considers a powerful candidate of the opposition of the right will mercilessly strike the one or those who will represent the government. If the electoral struggle does not end in the first round and if the representative of this right goes through to the final, this will need, for maximizing his chances, the votes of the electors of the left and also of those of the right, which gravitate around the current power. Cojocaru made such statements in an interview for Radio Free Europe, quoted by IPN.
“Here is an unknown of the electoral equation about which, in the interval of time that remained until the long-awaited announcement of the common candidate of the three parties that reached an agreement, should think,” stated Gheorghe Cojocaru.
The publicist said that after many troop moves and a series of statements that didn’t show that the opposition of the right from outside Parliament intends to seriously combine forces so as to have a chance in the presidential elections of this autumn, the leaders of the Party “Action and Solidarity” and the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” decided, together with what remained of the Liberal Democratic Party, to make common cause in the future elections. However, beyond the declaration of intent made public on this occasion, the voters will have to wait until the new electoral alliance identifies the common candidate for the presidential elections.
Gheorghe Cojocaru considers that through the association of the three parties, they transmit a message of unity that satisfies the coalition requests of the political forces of the right that have been divided until now and reduced chances of entering the second round of elections, if a second round of voting is held. A common candidate supported by the three parties means more resources in the election campaign and more chances of going through to the second round of elections. If a powerful candidate of the right appears, the people will better mobilize to take part in elections.
Earlier this week, three political leaders – Maia Sandu (PAS), Andrei Nastase (PPDA) and Viorel Cibotaru (PLDM) – signed a common statement according to which they will nominate a common candidate for President. The mechanism of choosing this hasn’t been yet made known.
