Power station to be built in Ungheni
The works to construct an electric power plant in Ungheni will most probably start at the beginning of 2013, Zdenek Zbytek, president of the CZET Consortium, said when asked by the press during the Moldovan-Czech energy forum to provide details in this respect, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Zdenek Zbytek said they are now working on the documents accompanying this project and are dealing with all the aspects, including ecological, so as to start the construction works as soon as possible. “We will use the most advanced building technologies that will be in strict compliance with the European norms, including those concerning environment protection,” he said.
The plant will have a capacity of 350 MWt. The necessary investments are assessed at €615 million.
“The power station will contribute to increased energy security. Moldova will be able to purchase a certain amount of power at the price set in the contract. The plant’s owner cannot set other prices. Besides, during the construction and afterward there will be created workplaces for the people from Ungheni and the neighboring settlements. The local authorities, in cooperation with businessmen, can increase the number of new workplaces if they set up greenhouses there and create other possibilities,” he said.
Under the contract signed in 2008 by the Government of Moldova and United Energy Moldova that forms part of J&T Finance Group, the plant will supply Moldova with 750 GWh of power, or 20% of the power consumption, and an additional amount of 100 GWh in emergencies. The rest of the electricity will be exported to Romania. The plant will be constructed in three years. It will work on coal and biomass.
In the energy forum, Deputy Minister of Economy Ilarion Popa said that the Czech businessmen presented other energy projects that they would like to implement to the Moldovan authorities and specialists. They are aimed at increasing energy efficiently, substituting old heating systems in public and residential buildings and at using renewable sources of energy.
