A special market intended for poultry and pets might be put into operation in Chisinau in late spring. The construction of the market started last summer. The Chisinau Municipal Council granted on a lease in February 2006 a land of 5.75 ha located on Carbunari Street to the Municipal Enterprise “Piata Centrala”. It invested about MDL 3 mln in the construction of the market until now. The works related to the construction of a pavilion of 1500 square metres where the poultry will be sold were finished. The pavilion has a capacity of 50 selling places, but everything depends on the capacity of the trucks. The manager of the Central Market, Ion Stratulat says that according to the requirements of the Veterinary Service, the pavilion will be fenced in with a metal net. The designing of the veterinary laboratory is almost finished and depending on the weather the construction works will start soon. Also, it is planned to connect the marketplace to the water, power supply networks as well as perform works on fitting out the territory, including laying asphalt. A special place for pets will be created on the territory of the market. At present, the exact date when the market will be put into operation is not known. According to Ion Stratulat, everything depends on the weather, however the company is interested in opening it as faster as possible, in order to recover the investments. A possible term is the end of the spring. Previously, poultry producers and merchandisers were selling the poultry near the Central Market in Chisinau. But their activity was prohibited at the beginning of the last year, because of the bird flu danger that occurred in the neighbour countries. A temporary poultry market is working in Telecentru district at present.
