Academician Stanislav Groppa urged the population to strictly respect all the hygiene and social norms so as to avoid the spread of the novel coronavirus. He called on the citizens to inform themselves only from official sources, to be cooperative, to show maturity and to take care of the own health and the health of those around. He also said that the reserves and possibilities should be reconsidered given the possible harsh scenario, IPN reports.
“We should anticipate the harshest possible scenario and should reassess the potential of the health system. We can also apply other appropriate strategies in summer. It is very important to analyze the state of health of doctors and of the healthcare system in general, but I refer here more to the health of doctors,” Stanislav Groppa stated in an interview for RFE/RL’s Moldovan Service.
The academician noted that the doctors in the Republic of Moldova are highly professional and devoted and they all fulfill with dignity and responsibility their functional duties. “It is well known that a person becomes infected when this comes into contact with a large number of persons who carry the virus. This is one of the biggest problems,” stated the university professor.
Stanislav Groppa said the epidemiological data in different countries, of different laboratories and also of Moldova show that about 35-40% of the patients infected with the novel coronavirus initially have neurological symptoms and lose smell and taste. Splitting headaches appear later. The cases when the patient ultimately suffers a stroke are much more serious.
“We already have a series of young patients, aged 40, 50, who suffer a stroke and become paralyzed and this is the initial state of the disease. At the beginning, the patient is paralyzed and is brought to the hospital with a stroke and then shows the extended signs of the coronavirus, such as fever, cough, chest pain, etc. And not only the nervous system is seriously affected. My colleagues-cardiologists continue to be involved in the treatment of patients with COVID-19 that initially was absent. Then we spoke only about the necessity of a specialist, family doctor or infectionist carrying out an examination,” explained Stanislav Groppa.
According to him, a research platform with a scientific council that coordinates these researches was founded at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Nicolae Testemitanu” when the very first cases appeared. The researches are in concordance with the activity of the Academy of Sciences and focus on a number of directions and involve national specialists who analyze the situation. They also cooperate with several groups of foreign specialists with experience, who went through such situations, like mates from Italy, France, Spain, Germany.
“We also devote attention to the analysis of the situation of doctors who become infected. This is an important problem and we now proposed to initiate a clinical and lab examination to determine the state of the medical personnel that are in direct contact with patients with COVID-19. On the other hand, we should see how the so-called clinical polymorphism or clinical forms develop, what clinical forms we have here, in the Republic of Moldova, as the situation is not simple.”
The university professor also said that in Moldova COVID-19 came by several ways – expatriates came home, people went abroad – these are different epidemiological routes. “Dear people, I call on you to have the most serious attitude to the sanitary rules, to the obligation to wear a mask in society and to leave home having gloves and to sanitize the hands, body. The physical distance of 2 meters should be mandatorily maintained. I analyzed those data showing that the virus remains in the atmosphere for a period after someone sneezes. That’s why it is necessary to wear a mask. I also call on you to eat correctly, sleep enough, be in good moods and do a particular amount of physical activity. These are all mandatory steps. It is not the case to relax,” stated Stanislav Groppa.
