The National Library of the Republic of Moldova today mounted an exhibition titled “Postcards from Ukraine: How “Russian world” destroys culture”, on the occasion of one year of the outbreak of the war. Twenty-two photo collages that present cultural heritage sites before and after the war will be on display until May 24, IPN reports.

The exhibits include material of the project “Postcards from Ukraine” that is implemented by the Ukrainian Institute with support from USAID. The goal of this campaign is to show to the world Ukrainian historic and cultural sites that were destroyed or damaged as a result of shelling by the Russian army starting with February 24, 2022, said the National Library.

UNESCO has built a database with the cultural heritage sites of Ukraine destroyed during the Russo-Ukrainian war. The UN uses satellite images taken before and after the Russian invasion to monitor the destruction of cultural sites during fighting.

About 450 cultural institutions have been destroyed in Ukraine during a year of war. Another over 700 buildings were seriously damaged. Donetsk region was affected the worst. Some 80% of the cultural infrastructure there was damaged.
