Posta Moldovei issues new stamp series dedicated to the Cantimirs

A new series of post stamps dedicated the Cantemir dynasty has been issued by Posta Moldovei on October 27, on the occasion of the 335th anniversary of the birth of ruler Dimitrie Cantemir and to the 300th anniversary of his son Antioh Cantemir, Info-Prim Neo reports. The series consists of two pieces: a post stamp and a small piece of paper with the stamp on it. The stamp paper, worth 3 lei, represents ruler Dimitrie Cantemir, a prince of Moldavia, a learned man, encyclopedist, ethnographer, geographer, linguist, writer and politician. The second post mark worth 1.20 lei represents Antioh Cantemir, a writers and diplomat, Dimitrie Cantemir's son. The Cantemirs' history was full of drama, directly tied to Moldavia's history, the stamps' author Alexei Colabneac said. The members of the dynasty lived abroad for most of their lives, were exiled, but they insisted to present the good parts of their in there, in an honest and productive manner. Dimitrie Cantemir is one of the few representatives of his time's culture and historiography whose image is on the of the French Academy's Library. “We commemorate not only the Cantemir dynasty, but also ourselves. The first condition of a people's morality is its attitude toward ancestors and history and this attitude should be rational, conscious and eulogizing, no doubt,” the painter said. The circulation is 12,000 stamp papers with Dimitrie Cantemir and 166,800 marks with Antioh Cantemir. The series will available from October.
