The organogram of the Superior Council of Magistracy will be supplemented with the post of vice president. A bill to this effect was given a first reading by the MPs, IPN reports.
The legislative proposal was put forward by the head of the Parliament’s legal commission for appointments and immunities Olesea Stamate. According to the MP, the institution of the post of SCM vice president is necessary for enabling to fulfill the duties if the SCM president is absent.
The SCM vice president will be elected by secret ballot for a two-year term, by a majority of votes of Council members. Both the SCM president and vice president cannot be reelected.
The bill is to be given a final reading.
The Superior Council of Magistracy consists of 12 members. At present, the Council includes four members from among non-judges who were named by Parliament. A contest will be announced to choose two more members. The General Assembly of Judges chose four SCM members out of the six appointed by it. Together with Nina Cernat, a SCM member from the previous composition, there are now nine members on the Council.
