Head of Parliament Igor Corman had a meeting with European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Štefan Füle in Brussels. The two officials discussed the possibility of liberalizing the visa regime and signing the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU until November 2014, when the term in office of the current European Commission expires, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Parliament’s press service, the main subjects discussed in the meeting included the situation in Moldova following the political crisis, continuation of the European reforms, strengthening of the democratic institutions, the country’s European integration prospects and the developments in the region.

Igor Corman confirmed the new ruling coalition’s pro-European commitment to definitively anchoring Moldova in the European area. ”The support of the people, who are waiting for definite results, is now the most important thing for us,” said the Speaker.

The European commissioner stated his support for Moldova’s European agenda and encouraged the cooperation of the parliamentary commissions with civil society and the people. Štefan Füle also underlined the importance of the parliamentary dimension and of strengthening the cooperation with the European Parliament, including the transfer of democratic experience and good practices and the adoption of relevant decisions in the context of the liberalization of the visa regime and the signing of the Association Agreement.
