Positions of Chisinau and Tiraspol remain different, Deputy Prime Minister
The first round of the formal Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format was held in a constructive atmosphere, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov has told Info-Prim Neo. The official said that all the participants in the talks expressed interest in reaching a compromise according to certain formulas, but the positions of Chisinau and Tiraspol remain different.
“The view on the finalization of the settlement process is different. But the dialogue began and we hope that our arguments and the arguments of the mediators and observers will help us to gradually convince the representatives of Tiraspol of the absurdity of certain positions on which they insist,” said Eugen Carpov.
The Deputy Prime Minister stressed the importance of this event resides in the fact that the official negotiations started and the possible format of the negotiations – the 5+2 one – was confirmed. “We initiated discussions on a document that lays down the principles of the future negotiation process. A part of the content was agreed, but the other part will be discussed in the second meeting,” said Eugen Carpov.
The second round will take place next February in Dublin, under the aegis of the Irish presidency of the OSCE. The meeting will center on the matters that will be discussed in the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format.
The first round of formal talks was held in Vilnius on November 30 and December 1.
