Position of Platform “Dignity and Truth” on removal of tents from central square of Chisinau

The representatives of the Platform “Dignity and Truth” describe the decision to take away the Dignity Town set up in the Great National Assembly Square and the way in which this decision was passed and implemented as illegal acts by the authorities, aimed at intimidating the protesters, IPN reports.

One of the leaders of the Platform “Dignity and Truth” Vasile Nastase told a news conference held in the central square of Chisinau that what happened this morning represents defiance of the law. According to him, the Dignity Town is a symbol of the people’s resistance to a ‘criminal regime’ and the decision to set it up was taken by over 100,000 people.

Lawyer Ana Ursachi said the ordinary court of law and the appeals court examined the case in the absence of the defendant, which is the Platform “Dignity and Truth”. Though the Platform complained to the Supreme Court of Justice about procedure-related violations, in only two days the court ordered to free the central square. This shows that the judges are not impartial and the fragrant violation of the people’s right to protest is evident. The protesters intend to go to the ECHR.

Another platform leader, the chairman of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase said that while the people survive and meet with difficulties and the young families go to live abroad, the ‘criminal government’ prepares for parade. “This does not yet kill us, but makes us stronger,” he stated, calling on the people and the opposition to make common cause and mount a large-scale antigovernment protest.

The tents put up by the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” in the Great National Assembly Square to protest against the government were taken away as a result of a court decision in the morning of August 13. The Supreme Court of Justice upheld the decisions of the ordinary court of law and the appeals court, which ordered to free the square. The case was started after the Chisinau City Hall went to court and demanded that the Dignity Town should be taken away because the works to repair Stefan cel Mare Blvd and the Great National Assembly Square are hampered.
