The competition for the post of President involves six candidates for now. The files of the last two aspirants will be examined most probably in the October 6 meeting of the Central Election Commission, as the head of the CEC’s Communication Division Rodica Sîrbu stated for IPN.
The list of candidates on the ballot is headed by Renato Usatyi, of the political party Our Party, which he heads. He is 41 and is the mayor of Bălţi municipality and also the founder of the foundation bearing his name. According to his tax return, during January 1, 2018 – December 31, 2019, he earned incomes from donations totaling 3 700 000 lei. He also earned 27 290 000 rubles from the sale of four cars and three motorcycles. His salary of mayor earned him 23 829 lei. After selling his shareholding in “Euroshow Grup”, he earned 5 400 lei. He owns 18 lots, a garage, six homes and other real estate. He possesses a Rolls Royce car and three watches whose value exceeds 10 average official salaries.
The second candidate is Andrei Năstase, of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform”, which he heads. He is 45 and is a lawyer by profession. After the local elections, he entered the Chisinau Municipal Council. In June 2018, he was elected mayor of Chisinau, but the election outcome was invalidated by court for the reason that he campaigned on the election day. According to his tax return, in 2018-2019 he earned 50 335 lei in salary of MP, 78 272 lei in salary of minister of the interior and 157 126 euros from a German company. In 2019, he received 3 250 lei allowances from the Chisinau City Hall. He owns eight lots, a garage, an apartment, two homes, two cars and other real estate facilities.
Tudor Deliu, of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova, is under No. 3. He is 64 and is a philologist by profession and a master of administrative and constitutional law. He serves as a political adviser at the patty. According to his tax return, during January 1, 2018 – December 31, 2019, he gained 233 820 lei in salary of MP and 135 329 lei from work at the party. He also earned 335 311 lei salary from the College of Ecology and 2 7995 lei salary from the Public Administration Academy, plus 253 618 lei in pension and allowances. He owes two apartments, a garage and a Toyota Avensis car.
Incumbent President Igor Dodon, who runs independently, is under No. 4. He is 45 and is a doctor of economy. He is the president of the Chess Federation of the Republic of Moldova, the founder of the public associations Moldova Modernization Institute and I Love Moldova and of the charitable foundation “Soluţia”. According to his tax return, during January 1, 2018 – December 31, 2019, he gained 416 921 lei in salary of President. His wife declared incomes of 784 290 lei from Exclusiv Media. He owns a lot and a house.
The fifth candidate is Violeta Ivanov, of the Shor Party. She is 53 and is a doctor of economical sciences, being an engineer by profession. She sits as an MP. According to his tax return, during January 1, 2018 – December 31, 2019, she earned 327 724 lei in salary of MP, 303 230 lei from Balkan Pharmaceuticals and 132 000 lei from Ionel Ivanov. She also gained 73 999 lei in compensation. She possesses an apartment, six bank accounts with a total sum of 523 924 lei. She is an associate of Furni-Style and a shareholder of Floare-Carpet.
The sixth candidate is Maia Sandu, of the Party of Action and Solidary, which she heads. She is 48 and is an economist by profession. Maia Sandu also ran in the presidential elections of 2016, reaching the runoffs. According to her tax return, during January 1, 2018 – December 31, 2019, she gained 111 786 lei salary from the State Chancellery and 50 335 lei salary from Parliament. She also earned 500 Romanian lei from activities at the Bucharest National Theater “I.L. Caragiale” and US$ 930 interest on bank deposits. She owns an apartment and a car made in 2007. She also possesses two bank accounts, one with US$ 24 270 and another one with 1 000 lei
The CEC is to examine the applications to be registered as contenders in the presidential race submitted by Octavian Țîcu and Dorin Chirtoacă, who were fielded by the National Unity Party and the UNION Electoral Bloc. Dorin Chirtoacă heads the Liberal Party. He is 42 and is a jurist by profession. He served as the mayor of Chisinau in 2007 - 2017. Octavian Țîcu, 48, is a university professor and a doctor of history, a boxing international master, European boxing vice champion and multiple national champion. He sits as an MP. He ran for mayor of Chisinau in the elections of October 2019, polling 5% of the vote.
