Population urged not to take artificial decorations to cemeteries

Before Low Sunday, the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment reminds that the plastic decorations and flowers purchased to be taken to graves pollute the soil and air. The period during which the petrochemical products decompose can last for 300 years. Also, carcinogenic substances are eliminated during the burning process, IPN reports, with reference to a press release of the Ministry.

Given that the quantity of plastic waste increases, the Ministry calls on the local authorities, representatives of religious organizations and the police to restrict the sale of plastic decorations near cemeteries. The administration of cemeteries should place containers with special markings for collecting plastic products. Later they can transmit these to business entities for recycling.

The violation of the waste collection rules is punished with a fine of up to 2 000 lei or up to 60 hours of community service in the case of private individuals. The fine for legal entities is of up to 15 000 lei.
