Population census will cost 90m lei

The population and homes census that will be taken in Moldova next year will cost 90 million lei. Data will be collected by about 9,000 census takers, IPN reports.

Lucia Spoiala, director general of the National Bureau of Statistics, said that a part of this money will be transferred from the state budget, another part by foreign backers, while the third part by private individuals and legal entities.

The census will be taken on April 1-14. Information about dwellings will be collected for the first time.

Before the census, there will be carried out a social campaign to inform the population. Between April 15 and 28, there was taken a trial census in Chisinau’s Buiucani district, which covered about 1,500 households, and in Zaim village of Causeni district.

The last census in Moldova was taken in 2004.
