Polling places closed, voter turnout at 47%

All the polling places in the country were closed at 9pm. The voter turnout is about 47%, down 1% compared with June 14. In Chisinau, the voter turnout was over 48%, almost the same as in the first round of the local elections. The voters in Centru district of Chisinau were the most active, while in Ciocana – the most passive, IPN reports.

Central Election Commission president Iurie Ciocan said the elections were rerun in Ulmu village of Ialoveni district and in Topala village of Cimislia district. In Ulmu, the voter turnout was over 45%, while in Topala – 54%. In all the polling places, the voting process took place legally and uninterruptedly and ended calmly.

The voters from Cocieri village chose their mayor at a polling place set up in Corjova village of Dubasari district. The voter turnout there was over 70%, up 30% compared with the elections of 2011. The elections there were held in a clam atmosphere and there were reported no incidents involving the Transnistrian authorities.

In the next news conference, the CEC will present the preliminary election results.
