Poll: Dorin Chirtoaca tops popular approval rankings in Chisinau. ELECTIONS 2015

Dorin Chirtoaca would poll 20.7% of the vote if local mayoral elections took place in Chisinau this Sunday, shows a poll presented by the Association of Demographers and Sociologists on May 20. In the second round of voting, Chirtoaca would compete with the Party of Socialists’ candidate Zinaida Grecheanyi, who would gain 17.8% of the ballot in the first round, IPN reports.

The Liberal-Democrats’ candidate Serafim Urechean would win 6.4% of the poll, while the candidate of the electoral bloc “European People’s Platform of Moldova – Iurie Leanca” Oazu Nantoi – 4.1%.

Over 70% of the respondents said that they will most probably take part in the June 14 elections. More than one third of those polled want the new mayor to deal with infrastructure-related problems. These want better roads, more parking lots and no kiosks and stands in the city.

Over 24% of those sampled said they would vote the Socialists’ team as councilors in Chisinau. The Liberals would poll over 18% of the ballot in the Chisinau Council elections, while the Liberal-Democrats, the Communists, the Democrats and the team of the bloc headed by Iurie Leanca would get around 8%.

The poll was carried out between May 10 and May 16 and covered a representative sample of 1,045 people. The margin of sampling error is 2.6%.
