About 75% of domestic households in Moldova have Internet connection, according to a poll commissioned by the National Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology. Most of the times the Internet is used to communicate through Skype, Viber (82%), to access social network sites (81%), to access news websites (67%) or to see the weather forecast (63%), IPN reports.
“77% of the respondents said they are satisfied with the fixed-line Internet, while 54% - with the mobile Internet. According to those questioned, there are sufficient offers on this market and an offer at a reasonable price can be identified. On the other hand, they said they are not satisfied with the unstable connection, the unstable or insufficient speed,” deputy division head at the ANRCETI Roman Bahnaru said.
The poll also shows that the highest electronic communication services rate is recorded on the telephone market. The landline phone penetration rate in domestic households is 95%, the mobile phone penetration rate is 91%, while the pay TV service penetration rate is 56%.
Division head Petru Mura said the telephone and Internet penetration rates in the rural areas differ slightly from the rates in urban areas. As regards the pay TV service, the difference is significant - 75% in urban areas and 43% in rural areas.
The ANRCETI intends to work out an electronic comparator of operators’ offers and an electronic comparator of service quality parameters. “We will not change the data presented by the operators. We will simply provide all the tariffs, offers and quality parameters on one website, for the end-users to choose,” stated Petru Mura.
The poll was carried out between October and November 2014. There were interviewed 1,150 private individuals aged between 16 and 65 from 452 settlements. The margin of sampling error is 3%.
