Politics reached the first place among the most publicized topics on television channels that covered the campaign prior to the October 20 election. The electoral process and corruption, including electoral corruption, are the next two topics of interest, according to the fourth monitoring report presented by the Independent Journalism Center (IJC).
The report covers the period from 11 to 18 October. In a news conference at IPN, IJC executive director Nadine Gogu said that Maia Sandu appeared most often in electoral materials, including news and debates. She is followed by Renato Usatyi and Alexandr Stoianoglo.
As for the duration of live videos, Renato Usatyi ranks first, followed by Irina Vlah and Vasile Tarlev, who also had the most appearances in shows and debates. This also explains the higher number of seconds measured for them.
Of the 11 presidential election candidates, most of them were neutrally presented on the 10 monitored television channels. However, there were appearances in a positive or a negative light. Maia Sandu, Renato Usatyi, Alexandr Stoianoglo, Irina Vlah and Vasile Tarlev had the most appearances in a positive context. At the same time, Maia Sandu also had he most appearances in a negative context.
According to Nadine Gogu, the monitoring period was extended until November because the second round of the presidential election will take place on November 3.
