Politicians have differing opinions about results of new mayoral elections

Representatives of different political parties expressed opposing opinions about the new mayoral elections in Chisinau and Balti municipalities. The Liberals and Liberal-Democrats consider Andrei Nastase’s victory in Chisinau showed that Moldova goes further towards the EU, while the Socialists believe the elected mayor of Chisinau will not cope. The issue was developed in the talk show “In Depth” on Pro TV Chisinau channel, IPN reports.

The deputy chairman of the Liberal Party Valeriu Munteanu said the first round of voting in the mayoral elections was extremely political, while the second round was extremely geopolitical. “The people in Chisinau, who remain the lance peak of democracy in the Republic of Moldova so that we continue our path to the European Union, including by this vote, said that we are Europeans and should go to the EU and should not concede the capital city to Dodon or Plahotniuc,” he stated. As to the elections in Balti, Valeriu Munteanu said the Russian speakers realized that the members of the Party of Socialists are not autonomous in their decisions.

Liberal-Democratic MP Iurie Tap considers now Andrei Nastase, the elected mayor of Chisinau municipality, bears not only personal responsibility, but also responsibility for the party the represents - the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” - and also for the Party “Action and Solidarity” and the Liberal Democratic Party with which they formed an alliance in these elections. “I think Andrei Nastase will prove that he came to work for the city and will work with all the groups and all the parties, including the central power,” he stated.

Socialist MP Vladimir Turcan noted the local elections differ essentially from the parliamentary ones. Not only the inhabitants of Chisinau, but also those of Balti lost as a result of the mayoral elections as the elected mayors will not manage to do something and will not want to do something. “They already see themselves in the campaign prior to the parliamentary elections. Citizens’ problems will remain the same. The elected mayors of Chisinau and Balti regrettably do not have experience in managing such large cities,” stated the politician, noting these do not have the necessary teams and concrete management views.
