Politicians and representatives of the civil society from Moldova marked the 60th anniversary from proclaiming the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, through a protest meeting in the Square of the National Opera, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The situation regarding the human rights in Moldova regresses from day to day. A lonely person cannot defend oneself from the state, which is targeted toward totalitarianism. That is why we need special instruments through which human rights would be protected, Stefan Uratu, the president of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Moldova, said. Uratu said that the authorities promote a policy of isolating the defenders, through intimidation. According to him, “The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is an instrument and a goal we must reach.” “This fundamental document of the modern human civilization is anonymous in Moldova, it is not promoted by the state’s qualified institutions, the media, and it is unknown by citizens, because most of the media elements are submitted to the state,” Valeriu Saharneranu, the president of the Moldovan Journalists Union, stated. Deputy Vitalia Pavlicenco, the president of the National Liberal Party (PNL), says that the corruption phenomenon encourages even more the violation of human rights. “In Moldova, there is no political pluralism, freedom of expression, the independent media being victimized. Moldova is a disastrous state, a state brought to non-existence through the not-functioning of the democratic institutions,” Pavlicenco emphasized. Anatol Petrencu, the president of the European Action Movement, thinks, though the Moldovan authorities committed, in 1990, through signing the declaration, to respect the human rights, this thing does not happen. In Moldova, only one right is observed, namely the right to go abroad. Everyone is free to leave for where they want, because poverty is unlimited. All the other rights are glaringly violated by the present governance,” Petrencu added. The protesters, who spoke up, encouraged the people to join together in fighting with the Communist power. The action was organized by the Journalists Union, the Writers Union and the Helsinki Committee from Moldova. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations Organization, on December 10, 1948. According to the document, any person has the right to life, freedom, security, property, freedom of meeting and association, work, rest, studies, etc.
