Politician Sergiu Mocanu remanded in preventive custody for 72 hours
Politician Sergiu Mocanu, the former adviser to President Vladimir Voronin, will be under preventive custody for 72 hours. The leader of the “Popular Action” Movement is now held at the isolator of the Interior Ministry’s Prompt Services Department, his lawyer Ion Dron has told Info-Prim Neo.
According to the lawyer, legal action was taken against Mocanu. “Nothing is clear yet. We know only that he is accused of organizing the mass riots and of overthrow,” Ion Dron said.
“No proofs for the arrest were presented yet, but I presume it is connected with the protests in downtown Chisinau that Sergiu Mocanu attended,” Dron said.
During two days, the investigators are to present the evidence to court. “We will prepare our defense after we see what the court decides,” the lawyer said.
On Wednesday morning, Sergiu Mocanu was arrested by a group of persons in civilian, who said they were police officers, in the Great National Assembly Square.
