Five political parties officially formed the political movement “Union” on January 15. The constitution agreement was signed by the leaders of the Liberal Party, the Romanian People’s Party, the Save Bessarabia Union, the Democracy at Home Party and the National Liberal Party at the bust of poet Mihai Eminescu situated on the Classics Alley in the central park of Chisinau, IPN reports.
Democracy at Home Party president Vasile Costiuc said strength lies in unity and this is the first step towards creating a large movement that would enjoy national support. “Given that we have several imperatives, I personally will continue to insist on three factors so that we can reunite with the motherland. The first factor is the unconditional withdrawal of the military troops from Moldova’s territory. The second factor is the law by which we must demand to ban any type of Russian-imperialist propaganda. And the third factor is energy security,” he stated.
The Liberal leader Dorin Chirtoacă said today is a day that has been awaited for 30 years as the National Liberation Movement in 1989 was founded to forge the union with Romania. “We bring to an end the division in our society. This way, we will make sure that any vote given by any citizen of the Republic of Moldova here, at home, or in the diaspora is a useful vote, a vote with hope, for truth, for a better life within NATO and the EU, within Great Romania finally,” he noted.
“We, the National Liberal Party, welcome the signing of the agreement to constitute the political movement “Union”. We call on other political, civic and other kinds of forces to adopt such mature decisions and to join our movement,” stated the party’s acting president Ion Calmâc.
Acting president of the Romanian People’s Party Tatiana Potâng said the current gesture is a response to people’s requests for the unionist forces to unite and a hope that the others will join the movement. “We chose the date of January 15 for founding the political movement “Union” because we insist that Eminescu should be not only a witness, but also the supreme civic and moral judge of this act of constitution,” noted the politician.
Save Bessarabia Union leader Valeriu Munteanu said Moldova does not have any prospect of joining the EU during the next 20-30 years. “The only chance for a better life for the citizens is to repair a major historical mistake by reuniting Bessarabia and Romania. This is hard, but inevitable work. We found not a union of five parties, but a large national movement for Bessarabia’s union with Romania that is open to everyone,” he noted.
