Political analyst claims that the discussion of territorial conflicts at UN General Assembly will draw the attention of the International Community
The greatest effect of the discussion of conflicts from ex-soviet territory at the UN General Assembly is luring the International Community’s attention to the matter, including the Transnistrian conflict, the political analyst Oazu Nantoi told Info-Prim Neo.
According to him, both the League of Nations and UN proved how hard it is to reach a solution or any decision at all, that unfortunately remain unimplemented for most of the time, when the world powers keep to the double standards policy. In this case the problem is in the Russian Federation’s attitude, the analyst mentioned.
The UN General Assembly approved to include in the meeting agenda of the 61st session the discussion regarding long term conflicts from the GUAM region and the impact of these on the international peace, security and development. This decision was made with 16 votes pro and 15 votes against, while another 65 countries abstained.
According to the Russian ministry of Foreign Affairs, this measure is not productive, and is meant to hamper with current discussion formats in the Transnistrian, Nagorno Karabach, Abkhazia and South Ossetia conflicts, where the Russian Federation is an active moderator.
