Political activity is a possible motive for Igor Turcanu’s murder
The political activity will also be examined as a possible reason for the murder of Igor Turcanu, the chief of candidate Mihai Godea’s electoral staff, Marian Lupu said after a meeting involving managers of law enforcement bodies, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Marian Lupu said he ordered holding an impartial, professional and objective investigation within a reasonable timeframe. “There are scenarios and versions and they seem judicious to me. The professionals will continue their examinations. The Presidential Office will monitor how the investigation is carried out. No incident of the kind happened in Chisinau during over a decade. Regardless of its motives, this crime should be solved so as to ensure safety in Chisinau,” said the acting head of state.
Asked if security will be stepped up in the capital city, Marian Lupu said there is no need for such a step.
Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubco said a working group was created to examine the given case. He also said that the prosecutors will question Mihai Godea and other persons. Asked if the murder was somehow related to the large debts that the victim was said to have, Valeriu Zubco said all the versions will be examined and the findings will be made public when the investigation is over.
Minister of the Interior Alexei Roibu said they are cooperating with Russian specialists in identifying the owner of the car that exploded. The VAZ car had a Russian license number.
The explosion happened near the Chinese Embassy in Chisinau on June 7. Igor Turcanu received serious injures and died in the hospital several hours after the blast as a result of a cardiac arrest.
