Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Cristina Lesnic said in 2019 they aim to make progress in all the three ‘baskets’ of discussions with the Transnistrian region, including the security area and the political solution. The issue was developed in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
Cristina Lesnic also said she would like a compromise to be reached as regards the munitions store in Cobasna. “Given that the regional threats and security changed a lot, this store is a real threat both to the Republic of Moldova and to Ukraine,” she stated.
As regards the human rights, the functionary noted they aim to discuss the access of NGOs to the Transnistrian region, the free movement of officials, economic security and information security.
In 2019, the strategy that will be used by Moldova in the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format will include the concomitant addressing of the problems from all the three ‘baskets’ that were agreed by the members of the format, including the political one. A statement on this strategy was supported at the recent meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Milan. Starting with 2012, the organizational basis of the functioning of the 5+2 format envisions the negotiation of three so-called baskets that include such problem as:
- socioeconomic, with such important directions as the people’s free movement, customs procedures, problems of the banking, health and education sectors being set;
- general law, humanitarian and human rights;
- extensive political settlement, including institutional, political and security issues.
